Vermont herbalist heidi schmidt

Heidi treats patients from her "tea house" in the Green Mountains of Vermont. She has practiced "plant spirit medicine," but is also trained in European phytotherapy (scientific herbalism), so that she could "understand both sides." The initial visit with a patient can last several hours; she collects the person's entire medical history, including details about sleeping habits, diet, emotional trauma and other factors that are seemingly not "medical." She prepares and prescribes - although points out that while it is illegal for herbalist to "prescribe" herbs, she can "only suggest" - dried plants for infusions and poultices, alcohol-based tinctures, ointments, salves, essential oils, Bach flower remedies and homeopathic tablets. But these suggestions come after she has taken time to think (and perhaps pray) in order to find answers as to what is needed for the patient. The walls of her clinic are lined with these preparations, books, and tea pots.
